For Sandra, For Those Lost, For Those Taken –
A Collage of Voices
I wrote For Those Lost, For Those Taken years ago in dedication to Sandra Bland. Today marks the 5th anniversary of her death. This is a song that I've seen resonate most when performed live, so after releasing it officially in April on Black Spring, I thought it needed to be expressed collectively. I am thankful to all of the contributors for sharing their voices for this piece:
Eryn Allen Kane, Brandon Micheal Hall, Alex Isley, Elliott Skinner, Ben Williams, Elena Pinderhughes, Jennah Bell, Madison McFerrin, Niya Norwood, Jonathan Singletary, Christabel Nunoo, and Keyon Harrold. Video edited by Kian Broder Wang.
"Inertia" music film out now.
If you are feeling low and having trouble getting out of your head or getting out of the bed, please know you are not alone!! Don't feel ashamed, or guilty, or blame yourself. It is just part of life sometimes and that's okay! Just getting through the day is enough, and then the next day is another chance to discover more and try again. Find those who can support you, and please do tell them what you're going through. We all need to support and love one another.

HOLD THAT WEIGHT FILM
This film is about the work that goes into trying to re-acclimate to home life and society when released from prison; battling thoughts, trying to navigate a way forward. And battling a prison system that traumatizes those it incarcerates and then gives no thought to what happens after people are released.
The Hold That Weight film is loosely based on the real lives of the 2 main actors, Lucas Monroe and Michael Barrett. The film’s director Daniel Pfeffer and the 2 main actors have known each other pretty much their whole lives growing up in Ithaca, NY – this film was shot in Ithaca in the places where they live and work.
In Lucas's words: “Being a returning citizen is something that needs to be addressed so much more - it's not talked about openly as much as it needs to be. We need to show people with family lives, who are struggling and make mistakes and should be allowed to learn from those mistakes and grow."
